Per WOWO, the DLGF has approved the Harrison Square Bond.
I really thought that Cheryl Musgrave, the new head of the DLGF, would not approve the bond. I really thought that she would not approve the bond due to the increased scrutiny that has been given to property taxes in Indiana this year.
I was wrong.
I lost a second bet with Sam Talarico. Sam and I have bet lunch twice; he has won both times...
Harrison Square is now a "done deal" unless a group of citizens elect to fight the project in Court.
So lets all hope that Harrison Square draws a lot of new jobs to Fort Wayne and that this large tax subsidy ends up being taxpayer dollars well spent...

Mike,
Read this morning paper about why she said she approved it. In part was that the Mayor said he was going ahead with Harrison Square either way. It is reported that she agreed in part to keep the interest rates as low as possible.
J.Q.
"So lets all hope that Harrison Square draws a lot of new jobs to Fort Wayne and that this large tax subsidy ends up being taxpayer dollars well spent..."
Let's also hope we can achieve "peace with honor" in Vietnam.
The point is to learn from the mistakes from the past, not provide those mistakes with additional funding. You don't send good money after bad.
The next city council can still kill the project. Even though the prosecutor doesn't want to press charges over misuse of TIF funds, we can still use that technicality to declare the contract null, void, and unenforceable.
Is it really a bet when one side (Sam) incurs no risk? This was always a done deal.
Mike,
Kudos to you for admitting that you were wrong in your prediction. Further kudos for recognizing that it is time for opponents attempting to stop the project to refocus their efforts into advocating for the most efficient use of the tax dollars spent on the project. I would support that endeavor.
Ironically, it seems the best way to ensure increased spending on the project is to add a court battle to the project.
I have been and always be against this project. It was handled with malice towards those of us taxpayers paying for it and it has nothing in the project that will support the investment 12-months a year. The jobs, &7-$9 per hour wages, even with the popular trickle down effect will have little benefit to cost ratio. The only benefit is that the political wussy kids in power will have a more fancy skyline to look at from their posh offices downtown. They can all drown in their own political puke.
Mike:
Spending as much time as I did down in S. Philly's Little Italy, I could have TOLD you that when it comes to Italians and FOOD...Never, I repeat NEVER bet against them, unless you are CERTAIN it's an airtight win for you (at least get some odds).
;)

(lost HIS share of bets)
According to Becker "progress is going well" on the new walkway. If having original estimates go from $900k to $2-3 Million is "well" then I would hate to see what bad is...
Mike is an ethnic German himself. Perhaps they should bet on beer next time.
Personally, I don't buy into ethnic stereotypes. I have mostly German blood in me, but I drink like an Arab.
She didn't think your CPA skills were good enough? The Libs have made some pretty crazy predictions in the past...I don't think any of them came true
J.Q. - Like all other aspects of the Stupid Project, our city and now county officials are coming at this with an "end justifies the means" attitude. Witness, our mayor telling Ms. Musgrave,"I don't care what you do, I am going ahead with this no matter what it costs - after all it's not my money!" This is the same as the illegal actions of the city in paying for the property first, then telling the redevelopment commission, city council, and all the rest of us: "It's a done deal - you can't turn this down now - because you would lose a bundle!"
If that's what "lean government" means, we are fortunate to be rid of this administration in January!

John, Look who was with him. Nelson Peters. The same Mr. Peters that wants us to believe Mr. Marshall (Chuckwagon BBQ) had every body in the county working for him. Yah.... Right ....
Dear Mr. J.q.
Before you start slamming people, should'nt you have the guts to talk to the person first. I'm sure Mr. Peters would be happy to talk with you about your accusations.
