The Democratic House elected new leaders today.
Nancy Pelosi was elected as their Speaker; no one ran against her.
Nancy Pelosi broke with common practice and common sense and tried to get her friend John Murtha elected (This sounds almost Bush-like).
Murtha would have been a terrible choice due to his:
Corrupt background (ABSCAM and directing pork to his brother)
Penchant for earmarks and pork barrel spending
Note the Democrats promised to clean up Washington... This would have been a terrible decision...
Luckily for Democrats everywhere common sense won out and The Dems elected Moderate Steny Hoyer by a resounding vote of 149 to 86.
Nancy Pelosi should have known better and this is a discouraging sign for those who were hoping she would work to clean Washington up...

Hoyer isn't much better - another corporate shill who'll probably try and undermine Pelosi at every turn. It's going to be interesting to watch that dynamic...
