Things AGAINST John Murtha:
ABSCAM. There seems to be little doubt that he is corrupt.
He is considered an Earmark King. He loves pork barrel spending.
He is in the back pocket of lobbyists.
He steered large amount of money towards his lobbyist brother.
The Democrats need to clean up Washington and "Drain the swamp." That is part of the platform they ran on.
Making John Murtha the #2 man in Congress is "putting the fox in charge of the hen house."
Pat White may have been right the other day and I may have been wrong.
I did agree with him that The Democrats would not get rid of the far left wing kooks and that those same far left wing kooks would in fact lead most of the committees in Congress... I never thought they might elect new kooks...
This would be a disaster for The Democratic Party.
Note that my reasons have NOTHING to do with the War in Iraq.
Mike Sylvester

Probably a tad early for an "I told you so".....I'll wait a while and see what else comes down the democratic party pike...
It is far too early Tim!
We will have to see what happens.
Nancy Pelosi says the first bill she will pass will make Earmarks 100% transparent as to who inserted them...
This would be a VERY good thing.
Reps could not get that done with majorities...

This is a lose-lose for the Democratic party. Murtha has his baggage but so does Hoyer. Rank and file Democrats don't like Hoyer but they don't care much for Murtha either - except for his voice on Iraq.
I have no idea who I would vote for. This must've been what it felt like to be a republican and having to cast your ballot for Mark Souder...
