More on Steve Shine

I was listening to WOWO earlier today and I heard a sound bite from Steve Shine, the Chair of the Republican Party of Allen County.

Steve Shine was quoted as saying that we need to bring both Syria and Iran into diplomatic talks...

Wow...

Did I hear that quote right on WOWO or do I need to clean out my ears? I may have some wax buildup...

Did anyone else hear that?

Wow.

Was that Jimmy Carter or Steve Shine?

Or the Iraq Study Group?

I am sorry, we do NOT need to talk to Syria and Iran. It will NOT work.

There's really no point in talking with your allies. It's talking to your enemies that can make a difference.

Even if it will not work, what's the harm in trying? We did talk w/ the Soviets after all...

Exactly. Just think what might have transpired had we not engaged the Soviets during the Cold War years. . .

I find myself in agreement with Steve Shine for. . .(checking) . .yep, this is the first time!

There is NO REASON to talk to Syria OR Iran and here is why.

There are a bunch of splinter groups who do not care what their own government wants. They will do what they want and their government cannot or will not do anything about it.

What is the point?

Mike, perhaps the average American would benefit if our (public servant) diplomats talked with Iran and Syria rather than unilaterally attacking them.(We pay them anyway)

Dropping bombs on people is not a policy that makes friends.

Anon...true enough dropping bombs won't make you friends but it just may prevent them from blowing the bejesus out of us.

The Iranian and Syrian governments do not like their splinter groups, anymore than Stalin liked Trotsky. We can exchange intelligence data on groups that are thorns in everybody's side and we can make it clear that we will not tolerate any meddling by them in Iraq.

Here is two more of my cents. The current Iranian president is losing power. His opponents have been winning elections. If we leave Iran alone, Iranian voters will realize that he is trying to score cheap political points by making us out to be a greater threat to them than we really are.

I think we missed an opprotunity when Khatami was president of Iran. He was very liberal and did want good relations with us. Someone like him could get elected soon and we will have that chance again.

Why do this many people care one whit what Steve Shine thinks about Syria and Iran? Is his supposed to be an informed opinion? Based upon what?

Robert - Exactly right.
