Do not fly list; more proof that expanding government is dangerous

CBS news has in interesting story about "the do not fly list." Please read it:

<http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/10/05/60minutes/main2066624.shtml>

The list has:
The President of Bolivia
The names of people in prison
The names of people honorably serving in the United States Army
Lawyers from the ACLU
A nun
People who are dead
Most of the terrorists who died in the terrorist attack on 9/11
Peace protestors

The TSA has tried to fix the list, they have spent at least 144 MILLION dollars so far trying to fix the program... They have NOT been able to fix it. Imagine that.

Bigger and bigger government does not work. There are a lot of recent examples, one of the more prominent being FEMA and hurricane Katrina...

Do you think either The Democrats or Republicans will ever decide to decrease the size of government?

It is campaign season so you will hear several of them talk about decreasing the size of government; unfortunately, they just say it to appeal to certain voters.

You won't see it in your lifetime. Way too many people rely upon the governmental spigot. You'll see some cutbacks with the ear-mark transparency bill but by and large
people will keep re-electing the lesser of two evils as long as they bring back pork to their districts. A lot of people aren't thrilled with mark souder, but they'll vote for him because he's been at it long enough and is on enough committees he can bring $$$$ back to Indiana. Granted, it was our freakin' money to begin with, but the way the system is set up, it's currently the only way to get anything back. I think it sucks, but to fix it seems damn near impossible Mike.

According to "Buck Wild", a book on how the GOP became the party of big government, voters usually do not really care about pork brought into their district. We need to put the government on a kosher budget.

If they are going to use a list, they should have more than just names on it. At minimum, there should be a photo of the person, identifying birth marks, tatoos etc. Personally, I would prefer they use Iris scanning instead. I do also believe that if there is another attact, it will be something totally different and unexpected (which is why we need to keep thinking outside of the box).

As far as big government goes, I am not convinced that bigger is any worse than smaller. It's not the size of an organization that gets out of control, it's the head or heads of the orgnaization that gets out of control. If you had a huge task to perform, could you do it more easily with more help or less help? I don't like big government, but I feel the problem isn't so much the size, but who is in charge of the size. If the organizagtion is too chaotic because of it's size, then a good Director would reduce the size.

Normally, I don't like people who blame the people on top, but when you get right down to it, it is their job to knows whats going on and keep their staff focused on the tasks which must be performed.
Katrina didn't have to happen the way it did, but it did. Why? Because we didn't plan and prepare for such a catastrophic event. Gee, you would have thought all levels of government would have strategized about how to deal with such a disaster and have a plan ready. Sometimes it's just too daungting of a task to undertake and it's easier to sit back and hope nothing happens on your watch.

You've heard the saying: It isn't the size, it's how you use it.

Well, Stan, the person who is in charge changes every four to eight years. Inefficiency is built into the system. Be grateful for that...
