This morning my daughter and I were running errands on the north side of Fort Wayne before I dropped her off for Kindergarten. I had to fill up my Toyota Camry with gas.
I spent just over $47 to fill the tank with gas.
I wonder what some of the readers of this blog pay to fill up their vans and SUV's? If has got to be a large sum of money.

Higher gas prices are one of the many different reasons I am asking for a bike as part of my graduation gift.
I keep urging my mom to switch to a more economical car since she has little, if any need to drive an Envoy.
An Envoy was good enough for Ecofreak Al Gore and his entourage were driving about 10 around. Also he claimed had the ability to use flex fuel.
Also, high gas prices could be used as an argument for viable and walkable downtown. HA
Most people would still have to drive to the downtown area in order to walk around there.
Flex-Fuel Tahoe $75.00 with gas and about $67-68 with ethanol.
The dead space between the 'burbs and downtown can be brutal when biking on a hot/windy/rainy day.
Accord 2003, $38 regular. And I am complaining..
Ugh. Don't get me started on E-85. It costs MORE to operate a flex-fuel vehicle despite the lower price of fuel per gallon. It's all about the fuel efficiency - which is 20% lower for vehicles running E-85...
My tahoe gets around the same mileage with e-85 or gas....no difference in performance either...
I wouldn't take any type of SUV or pickup as a GIFT (except to sell it and put that money to better use).
As for ethanol...pollutes 15% more than gas and (as Jeff stated) gets about 75-80% efficiency in combustion as compared to gasoline, ergo fewer miles per gallon.
My 24 year old 2.8L, 2bbl carburated V-6 Firebird still gets around 20-25 combined mpg....not bad for a relic (we are what we drive).
Then again...I like to maintain the car like any motorhead would. And having a good LOW drag coefficient (for that car) doesn't hurt either.
Also...my "Mario Andretti" driving habits bit the dust LONG ago (when gas crept OVER ONE DOLLAR)...LOL!
But then we come to the wife's Caprice Classic 4.3L V8 (rolls eyes)...well,...
'Nuff said.

CFW, its a good arguement for decentralized urban planning. People who live in Pine Valley, Waynedale, etc, should be able to get whatever they need on a day to day basis without making a special trip to do so. It helps to be able to get groceries on the way home from work.

You should read into E-85 a little bit and then I assure you that you will never purchase it again...
The Suzuki Swift is just like a Geo Metro, but sold under a different name. I bought the car from Jack Evans, who is a friend of Mike and me. Our friend Bob Uecker drives a Metro. My girlfriend drives a Metro. My cousin who is currently deployed in Afghanistan, Sgt Joe Hartman, used to drive a Metro. They are perfect for both women and men who are secure in their masculinity.
BTW, My hunch on the reason why John Kerry and Al Gore drive SUV's is because they need bullet proof vehicles. A sedan would not be able to support the added weight of bullet proof glass and armor plates hidden in the doors and body panels.
My brother once had a huge F250 pickup, and refused to haul anything for fear of scratching the truck liner bed. As such, the pickup truck was hauling around his macho ass, and little else. He promised to let me drive it when i was old enough, but he ended up selling it, because he was going to get married. So I never got to drive his big truck. Boo hoo.
When I fill up my Metro, rest assured I will think about your $92+ bill, and laugh my considerable ass off. If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy the same car. I hope gas goes to $5, just so I can have the satisfaction of hearing you complain that just because you are an American, you deserve cheap gas, blah, blah, blah. I feel your pain, and I emjoy it immensely!
My 1994 Metro also gets 46 mpg in the city, 49 on the highway. So there!
