I'm happy the family had national exposure on Fox news. Or any news,
to bring light to this ridiculous
charge to expell an 8th grade student for having a swiss army knife in his pocket and turning it in when he first gets to school. What the heck message does this send to all students.
Lie, cheat, and don't get caught.

What's wrong with being tolerant of being honest and say hey I'm allowed in my enviroment at home to use my swiss army knife. I accidently left it in my pocket from afterschool yesterday and wore the same pants to school today. But, opps, I forgot.

Maybe this school should include,
Jane Austen's novel, Sense and Sensibility as a reading requirement (written 1787-1798).
She is listed in the college dictionary under sense...common sense. Individuality is naturally most marked in her heroines, in whom she took an especial pride.

I knew a high school kid who was expelled for having his little brother's water gun out in plane sight in the back seat of his car. This was a plastic see-through toy, not a plastic replica or look-alike. He didn't take it in to the school or draw attention to it - some parking lot "security" officer was walking around and saw it.

Zero Tolerance - ain't it grand. This way people in charge don't have to actually think or be held accountable for their decisions; just blame it on the company/school policy - "my hands are tied kid; sorry, better luck next time"...
