17th item promised in the Republican Contract with America

The 17th item promised in the Republican Contract with America:

"The Common Sense Legal Reform Act: "loser pays" laws, reasonable limits on punitive damages and reform of product liability laws to stem the endless tide of litigation."

This promise is very easy to grade; as usual I will split it into its component parts.

1. "Loser pays" laws were promised. This has not been done at all. They promised a system more like Canadae; in Canada if you bring a lawsuit and LOSE you pay the court costs.

2. Reasonable limits on punitive damages and reform of product liability laws to stem the endless tide of litigation. This has not been done at all. Within the last years there have been some small pieces of legislation aimed towards limits; but, these efforts have taken ten years and have not changed anything so far.

This promise is a complete "goose egg." The Republicans have failed to deliver on this promise!

Current score of Republican Contract with America:
Promises Broken 12
Promises Kept 5
