Second Item in the Republican Contract with America

Item two was also supposed to be accomplished on the first day of this historic Congress.

"Select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste. fraud, and abuse."

This was a major campaign promise of the Republicans in 1994. They did make a very feeble effort to have an audit performed in 1995. This audit never really materialized. Little of the waste, fraud, and abuse that was found was eliminated.

Waste, fraud, and abuse is rampant in Congress and EVERYONE in Washington DC knows it. We need to elect politicians who will really ELIMINATE waste, fraud and abuse...

So the score is:

Promises Kept 1
Promises Broken 1

I thought Doug's answer was funny, but sad to say it has more truth to it than pun. A prerequisite to being a representative should be they understand how to budget, they must do their own taxes (no CPA’s sorry Mike and cannot vote on any spending authorization that brings money back to their district/state only.

The News Sentinel has candidates filling out an on-line questionnaire with one question being What are your qualifications for this office?

My answer was
Contracts also identify payments, which in this case would be the same as tax revenues. Do the tax payments cover the cost of benefits? If not, then we have deficits. This is our problem. Congress does not know how to budget.

Voting on legislation requires an individual who can understand what is written. Legislation is no different than specifications found in any design requirement or contract. It identifies what the terms and conditions are for both parties. In this case the parties are the taxpayer and the beneficiary. Being able to understand complex requirements and ensure that payments are adequate to cover benefits will minimize cost-over-runs or in the case of government, deficits, unfunded programs and tax increases.

I have a good education in mathematics, science, economics and an outstanding ability in solving problems.

It is the responsibility of a U.S. Representative to do what is best for the district, not what is best to get elected. Maybe the Scout Oath says it best: A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

Trustworthy and thrifty, I guess that would leave just about everyone in congress out.
