I do enjoy discussing issues with Bartleby and others who I do not always agree with. That is really the purpose of this blog.
I am really curious if anyone besides Bartleby thinks that there is no difference between Libertarians in northeast Indiana and the local GOP...
As EVERYONE who reads this blog knows I was a Republican for MANY years before The Republican Party left me. I freely admit that I lean Republican on many issues...
There are a ton of issues I completely disagree with The GOP on and they are well documented on this blog. There are many issues I have agreed with local Democrats on as well...
I also think you should check out Robert Enders blog. He is another northeast Indiana Libertarian. Is he identical to the GOP?

I suppose I won't vote in the poll since I don't live in that part of the state and the question seemed framed for the locals. But as I've read the posts over the past months, I have to say that Mike Sylvester sounds pretty much like a Republican to me. The good thing is that he has basically admitted that more than once on this blog. I respect his honesty in that regard and I think that with more time and education, he just might end up being a great libertarian one day. ;)
Oh, and I have no idea whether Bartleby is crazy or not. But I do generally agree with his thoughts. So if he is crazy, then I am too. :)

Debbie, I'm afraid I have some bad news for you. I am indeed crazy. How else can I explain the fact that I've yet to see "American Idol," or "Lost," or "Survivor?" Not one of them; not even once.
So perhaps we are both crazy.
I'm not going to vote in a poll either. To do so would suggest that there's some slight correlation between what majorities think, and what's true. And, in a country in which George Freakin' Bush has been elected twice, that is a crazy notion!

I see where the eternal Downtown Fort Wayne Revitalization is in the news again today. Still up for advancing this holy cause by prohibiting development elsewhere?
The way to succeed in politics without outright lying is to find common ground with the voters. This is Indiana, the reddest state in the Midwest. If he sounds like a Republican then he is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing. He is placing emphasis on issues in which he agrees with most voters. If you want reassurance that he is a Libertarian and not a Republican, ask him about his stance on the Patriot Act.
Dude, I like that qualifier -- "outright" lying.
Is there anything more important than success? (I'm thinking of the "I" word here ... "integrity.")
I certainly agree with Bartleby that Integrity is very important.
That is why I always say what I think and how I feel.
I do not care that I have some views that some people (Bartleby) do not care for...
At least they know where I stand.

I suppose we could ask him about a federal issue that he has virtually no power to take any personal action on. But this whole thread was discussing how it might be a good idea to show you believe in libertarian principles in small ways by taking a stand and not using government forced and funded things like public access tv. Doing such things is all part of educating others on what it means to be libertarian. It just makes sense to me to SHOW ways in which you try to live libertarian principles, instead of just talking about it.
I'm curious. When you stopped being a Republican, did any Republicans notice?

So you're saying that if someone gives you enough money, it affects the decisions you would make in your political actions? Can you explain to us how you are different than what we have now?

Do you truly not understand my point? I clarified from the beginning that there are places where it much easier to make choices simply to help demonstrate basic libertarian principles, and I think that public access is one of those areas. If the whole country had government funded health care, it would not be nearly so easy to get out of the web.
