A great example of how Fort Wayne wastes taxpayer dollars

The City of Fort Wayne recently spent $241,000 for new signs and to upgrade one intersection (Wells and Franke Park Drive).

The City did this mainly due to my councilman, Tom Didier.

You will not believe the reasoning behind squandering almost a quarter of a million dollars.

Tom Didier decided that it was offensive to children that they have to drive by some signs for strip clubs on their way to the zoo. So we now have a new "official" route for visitors going to the zoo from I-69. This route requires visitors to drive an extra mile...

Wow...

Talk about crazy...

Kids don't pay attention to the signs and even if they did they wouldn't know what they were anyway.

Speaking of that intersection, why the hell is there a stoplight there? This town must have the highest number of stoplights per capita in the country. The traffic flow here is pitiful. The only light worse than that one is the one at Wells and Putnam...

Mike, Don't they have to get some sort of approval or ok from somebody to blow a quarter of a million on something so obviously stupid?

Talk about pork....

Jeff:

I agree, the City of Fort Wayne loves to waste our money...

Tim:

He had to get approval. City Council voted to allow this, the Mayor also bought in...

This is a prime example of conservative moralistic stance undermining common sense. I am sick of Repubicans for flaunting their moralist standpoint without regards to comm'on sense.

Our Democrat mayor approved it, "a democrat".

This is the kind of issue where more people are against it than are for it. But the people who are for it are more likely to base their vote on this sort of issue.

Also our City Council has 4 Dems and 5 Reps and they sure approved it.

The truth of the matter is both Reps and Dems thought this was a good idea...

So, what vendor (and probably political contributor) sells reflective material and other supplies to the City of Fort Wayne sign shop?

One other thought - I bet more out of town visitors go to the topless bars at Goshen and Coliseum Boulevard than go to the Grand Wayne Centre fiasco.

Next thing you know, Didier will want to mandate the animals to wear clothes.

By the way, what's the name of that meat market right next to Wells Street and Franke Park Drive?

I think there is some misinformation here- I think the $250,000 was for the roadwork, adding the streetlight (which, by the way, was a very dangerous intersection) and the signage.

I may not agree with the plan, but I want to be sure the facts are right.

Theres's nothing else quite as "Fort-Wayne-like" as having to go out of your way and stop at disruptive stoplights to get somewhere. Not only does Fort Wayne have too many stoplights, but they are generally poorly timed, doing nothing more than wasting fuel & brake-pads and destroying innocent minutes.
