Have you ever heard a Federal employee claim they are underpaid?
I have. I have often heard that Federal employees make less then those in the private sector.
This is 100% untrue. It turns out that Federal employees make about TWICE what private sector employees make.

On average, this is true. But some fed employees make less than someone in the private sector doing the same job. I know a govt lawyer who only makes 80K a year.
But you have to ask yourself "If you would make more in the private sector, why don't you work in the private sector?" One answer is job security: It is very hard to get fired by the federal govermment.
Certainly there are a few exceptions; but, the numbers do not lie.
On AVERAGE Federal employees make twice as much as the private sector once you include benefits.
That is shameful and wasteful.

Mike, it's not only shameful and wasteful, it's also dangerous. The salaries, benefits, and percs are the major reason for all the "ass-covering" that takes place between departments and agencies. All that ass-covering leads to mistakes and mistakes can get people killed in this day and age.
