Texting while driving

Texting while driving is stupid, dangerous, and irresponsible. It should be illegal. But any activity that causes a driver to take his eyes off the road should be illegal. As technology progresses, there will always be new gizmos that morons will be using while driving. If virtual reality headsets become widely available, some doofus will have one on while driving.

Damn you Robert, reading your post nearly caused me to wreck! Now, where did I toss that cheeseburger? Oh, there it is in the back seat. I think I can reach it...

How does the officer know if your picking your fingernails, looking for change on your center console, sorting through french fries, texting, or whacking off?

I would think you (especially) would cringe at the thought of giving the police another reason to just "randomly" pull you over.

Wouldn't it be simpler if we just made it illegal for you to drive without having your hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel?

Maybe in 2012.

Tim,
He would have to see you driving erratically. If during the stop he sees a phone with a text message on it, that could be sufficient evidence for a citation. If you,re involved in a fatal accident, they could check your cell phone records.

I know...but isn't the point "search & seizure"? I'm not saying it's not foolish...I'm saying we don't need another frickin' law to cover stoooopid behaviour
