Upcoming tax protests

We'll be having our annual April 15th tax protest to 4:30pm and until it gets dark in front of the Anthis Career Center parking lot, next to the parking lot.

Hoosiers for Fair Taxation is holding a "tea party" at the courthouse square from 11am to 1pm on the 18th.

Robert,
Thanks for the link to the Fort Wayne Tea Party which will be on April 18, 2009.

Is there anything historically significant about that date?

Listen, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-Five;
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year

April 18, 2009 also happens to be the day that I take my EMT-I practical exam.

As someone who has often considered joining the Libertarian party I think you are discouraging people from joining with this annual protest. Personally, if I see someone standing outside in a costume of any sort protesting it gets my attention because I dump that person into the same grouping as those who believe in Scientology.. being slightly off kilter. I'm an accountant, and would love to see the tax code changed to not only make sense, but be fair (and smaller), but I don't see how standing around at the post office does anything to further that effort.

Michael, come by the post office and just hang out for a bit.

It may look a bit goofy, but we get information to people about where their taxes go.

Michael,

I tend to generally avoid marches and protests myself.

However, as we have been doing this for about four (4) years now it serves several purposes.

#1) I always ask folks who are doing the protest to dress nicely and at a minimum of business casual. I hope this alters the general view many people have of us being "hippie radicals".

#2) It keeps our activity in the mainstream media. It helps to show that we are here to stay and we have a consistent message.

#3) By simply handing out a bill breaking down the Federal Debt, Interest in that debt, and other information that clearly shows that the government is acting in a fiscally irresponsible manner I hope it gives us a degree of credibility that is hard to argue with.

This evening I will be in business casual, with khaki slacks, a sweater and a tie. I hope to project the image of a reasonable, average American who is concerned about the mountain of debt we are building for not only ourselves but future generations.

I hope that by this one small act of protest we bring clarity to many folks minds that we are the ONLY party that is calling for true fiscal responsibility of our elected officials, something that has been sorely lacking for the past many decades.

Respectfully,

Doug
