If the American Legion as an Organization decides to ban smoking on its facilities that is absolutely fine with me as it's their right.

However the government has no business making that decision for them, whether it be on the local or state level.
This is about the government taking away rights from the very people who have fought for those rights by legislating morality and calling it concern for "public health" when most of the public and politicians could care less about the health care issues.

I would like to know how many members of the city council, and those running in upcoming elections, have served in the military in any capacity.

Does anyone know?Scott Barneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08727099571549149536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11887973.post-61996216074127291082007-04-25T13:08:00.000-04:002007-04-25T13:08:00.000-04:00I just returned from lunch with my friend who is a...I just returned from lunch with my friend who is a bar owner and non-smoker. I think the reason that people are so upset about this is that 9 guys who meet for an hour or two every week are making the decision to end livelihoods. It would be much easier to take if it came from the state government.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11887973.post-30284108982507982282007-04-25T12:33:00.000-04:002007-04-25T12:33:00.000-04:00If there's even not 1 non-smoker at your local ALP...If there's even not 1 non-smoker at your local ALP #499, then I agree with you 100% Scott.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11887973.post-43279914727629933422007-04-24T22:05:00.000-04:002007-04-24T22:05:00.000-04:00Scott,May I say Brother Barnes that this is one of...Scott,

May I say Brother Barnes that this is one of the very reasons I describe myself as a RECOVERING REPUBLICAN.

I believe in a small government that does its very best to not intrude on the lives of its citizens. Alas, one party only talks the talk. They do NOT walk the walk.

I will not ask you to leave the republican party but will instead ask you to sit down, drink a strong cup of coffee, and realize that the Republican Party has left you!

Join us in reclaiming the ideals of our forefathers in protecting our liberty and keeping the government out of our lives.

Respectfully,

Doug HornerDoug H 3rd Dist Rep LPINhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17176858569875097868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11887973.post-57759921654232503012007-04-24T21:14:00.000-04:002007-04-24T21:14:00.000-04:00So just to be clear, on June 1st it will be illega...So just to be clear, on June 1st it will be illegal to join my father (Vietnam Veteran) and Grandfather (World War II Veteran) at our local American Legion Post #499 (A Private Club)for a couple of smokes?

Whatever happened to minimally intrusive, small-government Republican Party ideals?

After having spent 4 years in the Army's 1st Cavalry Division and two overseas deployments to the Middle East, I feel I know something of sacrificing personal
freedoms and liberties. It was something everyone willingly accepted as part of the job.

Now I find the moral grandstanding of our politicians to be comical if it weren't so sad. I thought that I could count on Republican support against this kind of governmental intrusion, but apparently those days are gone in Indiana.

I believe that ALL Hoosiers, business owners in particular, should be free to make their own personal choices about smoking.

I challenge any Republican or Democrat to tell me that I haven't earned that right along with my Father and Grandfather.

We don't need legislated morality under the guise of "public health" trying to tell us that we haven't.Scott Barneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08727099571549149536noreply@blogger.com
