I think the mayor is close to a good idea, I am skeptical that more hotel space when their doesn’t appear to be demand for what we have now and a stadium that will only operate 6 months a year will provide the kind of draw Downtown Fort Wayne needs.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11887973.post-1166824199354688262006-12-22T16:49:00.000-05:002006-12-22T16:49:00.000-05:00I don’t really disagree with the measurability, an...I don’t really disagree with the measurability, and your right Government avoids it at all cost as it also comes with accountability. It will allow the public to scrutinize certain assumptions and make decisions accordingly.

And if nothing else, it will give us something to point to in the future and say - "remember when you said this would be so great? Well we're not buying your latest "great" idea" or vice-versa. It's adds a level of accountability to the equation.

This is not new - it's essentially done everywhere but government...Jeff Pruitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01996970649630375507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11887973.post-1166754949936717292006-12-21T21:35:00.000-05:002006-12-21T21:35:00.000-05:00Problem is Jeff, after we measure the goals and fi...Problem is Jeff, after we measure the goals and find them to be wanting, we’ve already spent the money and their only other solution will be to build something else to draw a crowd.

Here is my problem...

1. There is no demand for hotel space. The Holiday Inn is being sold and the Hilton is vacant.

2. Baseball is great but...
a. Improve profitability of the local businesses? Increase hotel occupancy? Increase the number of conventions? Put some numbers to these claims and let's see what happens.

Of course this will never happen because then people could actually be held accountable for their decisions...Jeff Pruitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01996970649630375507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11887973.post-1166717875318235742006-12-21T11:17:00.000-05:002006-12-21T11:17:00.000-05:00HA HA HA! Laughable indeed.

When will the people that we allow to run our grubbermint (TPTWATROG) ever understand that in order to draw businesses into the city, they need to treat the business owners like adults, not children?

The discussion of a city smoking ban is a case in point. What sensible entrepreneur wants to operate in an environment where grubbermint *do-gooders* are mandating how this and that part of his business shall be run? Add a smoking section, cook your meat well done, put up signs, do this, do that. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Here is a novel idea- how about a privately funded sports arena? The people that use it pay for it.

To the *Public Servants*- - -get out of people's private business, reduce taxes, respect the choices of others- even the bad choices that do no harm to others, respect private business. THEN you will see downtown development.

One rad libAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11887973.post-1166714282695648162006-12-21T10:18:00.000-05:002006-12-21T10:18:00.000-05:00Anonymous said:You may read the blog but you do no...Anonymous said:

You may read the blog but you do not seem to understand my views about downtown Fort Wayne.

I am in favor of putting a casino downtown.
